Chris Amon Remembered

I learned today of the death of New Zealand racing driver Chris Amon.
I met Chris several times during the photography for my book 'Out of the Shadows' and photographed him at Monaco, Silverstone and Thruxton.
He was a very amiable and quiet man and was often regarded as one of the best drivers never to have won a Grand Prix, although highly competitive he was always dogged with unreliability. In 1969 he won the Le Mans 24 Hour Race in a Ford GT40 with fellow New Zealander Bruce Mclaren.
Chris retired from grand prix racing in 1976 to manage the family farm. He raced in 102 Grand Prix, secured 11 podium finishes and 83 world championship points but unfortunately no Grand Prix win.
