These Aren't Real Engines
I well record photographing in David's studio with him showing me many railway and aviation paintings. One was of some railway engines (I believe Merchant Navy Class), David however, was rather fraught at my saying they were among my favourites as a young boy when I watched them many times as they travelled past the rear garden of my parent's home in Wimborne with both passengers and freight. "These aren't real engines" he exploded, "in fact I personally can't stand them".
